Contact Improvisation & Theater Practitioner
Tongge Kang is a theater and body practitioner whose work centers on the intricate relationship between the mundane and the performative. Through an ongoing creative process, she explores these boundaries by engaging the body with diverse media and materials.
Theater Background: From 2017 to 2025, she has been a frequent participant in the Invited Works sections of major festivals, including the Wuzhen Theatre Festival and the Aranya Theater Festival. Her representative works include Dreams of Three Springs, Fly to the Moon, and I Am the Moon. She has also performed multiple times at the Festival d'Avignon Off in France.

Practice & Facilitation: Tongge Kang began her exploration of Contact Improvisation within the Beijing CI community in 2018. She is a curator and teacher for BJCI (Beijing Contact Improvisation) and a co-founder of "Thursday Afternoon" TALab (Somatic & Kinesthetic Laboratory). Rooted in improvisation, somatic philosophy, and body awareness, the laboratory examines the nexus of consciousness and performance, extending these inquiries into the fabric of daily life.
International Presence & Research:
2020: Participated in the Contact Improvisation Festival in Goa, India.
2021–2022: Served as a facilitator for open classes at the Touch CI Community Conference.
Current: A core member of the Body On&On "Body Nomadism" project.
2023–2025: Multiple residencies and intensives at Towards CI51 in Thailand.
Philosophy of Movement: To inhabit a silence that is at once inquisitive, vibrant, and abundant. In the continuum of self-exploration, she perpetually shifts between different "roles," allowing the flow of consciousness to weave seamlessly with physical spontaneity. Her practice is a profound investigation into the art of relating: how to dwell in togetherness, and how to cultivate a deeper independency.
Everything is in a perpetual state of flux. Perhaps the process of searching for meaning is, in itself, the very essence of that meaning. It is a journey of fluid realization.
I maintain a radical openness toward exploration—a commitment to "serious play." I am eager to engage with diverse media; whether it be a deck of cards, a physical object, or a sound, each serves as a portal for entry and empowerment. Currently, my deepest fascination lies in the mechanics of autonomy: how one discovers their own intrinsic momentum.
